Showing Up Despite
The Odds

SARAH EMERY FOR COLORADO HOUSE DISTRICT 14

My Why

I think of politics like a bell curve. The loudest voices live on the far left and far right, but most people are somewhere in the middle trying to raise kids, pay bills, and live decent lives. Unfortunately, the media and too many politicians spend their time pandering to those outliers, leaving a lot of us feeling politically homeless, even though we’re actually the majority, especially in House District 14.

This is why I was an unaffiliated voter until December 2025. I didn’t feel like anyone was listening. I didn’t feel represented. I was tired of the constant bickering and disrespectful discourse, and it felt like too many elected leaders had forgotten who they were supposed to be working for. For a while, that left me feeling hopeless. But that’s not who I am. When I see a problem, I don’t stand by and complain. I try to fix it. I realized that if I wasn’t willing to step up and take action myself, I couldn’t expect anyone else to do it for me. I determined the best way to get on the ballot was to join a party, use their platform, and start shining light on the issues I’m passionate about.

And yes, I’ve been told plenty of times by those with the best of intentions, “You’re gonna lose.” I’ve got the internet. I can do the math. I know the odds aren’t great. I’m showing up anyway, because all the people of House District 14 deserve a real voice. Maybe I’ll win, maybe I won’t—but if I lose, I’ll lose spectacularly: by speaking honestly about the issues that matter, listening even when it’s hard, and pushing for practical things like consistent school funding (so my kids’ school doesn’t need to put out buckets when it rains) and real solutions to the cost of living so our families can afford to stay in this community.

I’m not about left or right. I'm about neighbors and community. When we slow down and genuinely listen to each other, it’s amazing how much common ground we can find. Most people want the same basic things: roads that don’t have their car needing an alignment, a safe, affordable place to live, and a better future for their kids and grandkids. And the best solutions don’t come from division or extremes, they come from everyday people working together.

Turns out yard signs, business cards, and democracy all cost money. I’m showing up anyway and if you believe in doing the hard thing, I hope you’ll donate and help keep this campaign alive.
